Ganesh Chaturthi:
Ganesha Chaturthi ( Gaṇeśa Chaturṭhī, sanskrit: गणेश चतुर्थी) or Ganesha Festival is a day on which Lord Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, is believed to bestow his presence on earth for all his devotees. It is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi in Sanskrit, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu, Chavath ( चवथ ) in Konkani and as Chathaa (चथा) in Nepal Bhasa.
It is celebrated as it is the birthday of Lord Ganesha. The festival is observed in the Hindu calendar month of Bhaadrapada, starting on the shukla chaturthi (fourth day of the waxing moon period). The festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Ananta Chaturdashi. This festival is observed in the lunar month of bhadrapada shukla paksha chathurthi.
In 1893 Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak stated Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav, which is today commemorated all over India.
Rishi Panchami:
Next day of Ganesh Chaturthi (4th September, Thurday) is Rishi Panchami, to offer our gratitude towards the Rishis who gave us Jnanadrishti, Samskriti, Vedas and other Dharma grantha’s. In the sky (north) there is a collection of seven stars which is called Saptarishi Mandal. On its side is the Dhruva Nakshatra. Seven Rishis are Kashyap, Atri, Bharadwaj, Vishwamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni and Vasista. On this day worship is also offered to the saints born in Kaliyuga: Sant Nivrithi, Dnyandeo, Sopan, Muktabai, Tukaram, Namdev, Eknath, Sant Ramdas, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Jhansi Ki Rani, Sant Tyagaraja, Potana, Gopanna, Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Ramana Maharishi, Anandamayi Ma, Shivanand Saraswati and other enlightened beings.
Gauri Poojan:
Three days after Ganesh Chaturthi (7th September, Sunday) Godess Parvati descends upon earth to see how her son, Lord Ganapati, is adored, respected and served by the people of Bharat. This festival is based on the Puranic story when the earth was ruled by demons, giving trouble to the Devas. Celebrated fervently in Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli for blessings of Goddess Gouri and Ganapati.
Ananta Chaturdashi:
14th September, Sunday, Samapati day for Ganapathi festival. It is a day Maha Vrata (fasting). Prayers are offered for prosperity and bounties of nature to Lord Ananta, who is believed to shower infinite blessings of abundance on this Anant Puja day.
